Hydrofarm is especially pleased that we have been able to help out a member of the U.S. Army stationed abroad. CPT Lawrence Indyk, U.S. Army, is an avid gardener stationed at Bagram Air Field, Afghanistan. Working with one of our industry partners, Home Harvest Garden Supply, we’ve helped CPT Indyk continue to engage in his favorite hobby by supplying him with Jump Start Greenhouses and Big Daddy Grow Bags to get his seeds off to a good start. We’re betting that his fresh vegetables and colorful flowers are appreciated by everyone serving with him. Below is part of one of the letters he sent back from his garden in the desert.
“The folks around here really like it (the garden) - you'd be amazed how many soldiers, contractors, and even local Afghani nationals come up and want to talk about what I'm growing, about some garden they have or their parents had, about being on the farm as a child (most of the locals grew up in rural lifestyles). There are people who want to buy the plants, people who want advice, people who give advice, etc...
The strange thing is, I wanted to learn more about growing plants, but instead, I've learned more about people. I've learned ... there's something about working on a garden in a public place that makes most people want to come up and talk to you - the ultimate ice-breaker / conversation starter.”
